I wish words where my strong suit, as I think a beautifully written rendition of this event would complement the images you are about to see.

I'll just quickly say that this experience was one of the most unique, exquisite and breathtaking experiences I have ever had the pleasure to photograph. While I truly value the experiences I have witnessed behind the camera, this by far takes the cake.

To the new parents, Thank You so much for allowing me to share this experience with you. It was unforgettable! Congratulations!

..a little love...Part Two

O.k, O.k....I know that this was supposed to be up about a week ago, BUT the movers came to our house to pack it up and it didn't take as long as I thought it would. SO, I was left without a computer until I got to Portland, OR. Now that we are a little more settled I can post this BEAUTIFUL "day after the wedding" post.

I absolutely LOVED that this couple wanted to meet me downtown (first thing in the morning) to capture a few hip photographs of them in Downtown Charleston.

I really will let the photographs speak for themselves, but K and C...again, it was a pleasure :)

Here is to you...enjoy your beautiful life together. May you have enough highs to keep your life beautiful and a few lows to help you grow closer :)

...a little love...PART ONE

I really wanted to have my new blog design up and running with a sweet slideshow for this wonderful couple...but our move across the country has me running out of time and not even packed :)

I decided that a regular ol' blog post with some BEAUTIFUL pictures of this couple's big day was more important then a slideshow! I hope you'll agree!

Let me start of by saying this wedding was SO fun! It was filled with beach walks, a beautiful beach house with a floating pool over the ocean, a golden orange sunset and wonderful friends. It was so fun to watch the intimate relationship that existed between the bride and groom's family and friends as they mingled together over the weekend, I truly felt honored to capture this time for them!

I was also very nervous because both the bride and groom are photographers, so I know you'll be looking over the next blog post (OR TWO) with a trained eye...I hope you like what you see!

Their Story:

Kim..."I wasn't always sure about the online dating scene, but I decided I would give it a try!

I told my friends I was going to get a house, a dog and a girlfriend. In that order....Chris

Kim...His first e-mail was so witty, I loved it!

I had to forward Kim's e-mails to my sister, asking her if this girl could be really this awesome...Chris

Kim...at one point in our relationship we went into Tiffany's, I told him how much I loved Tiffany's Jewelry

...To which I replied "we are SO not there yet"...Chris

When he first saw her turn the corner and come down the beach he didn't have tears or shout for joy...but instead a light started to shine and anyone looking at him could see it.

Such a beautiful day! Absolutely amazing. The details, the people, the location...all beautiful!

I had a wonderful time with you both...come back tomorrow to see what happened when the bride, groom and I went into Downtown Charleston!

...a last and a first...

On this beautiful Spring evening I had the pleasure of shooting two people I have admired from afar! I met Stacy (sort of) when she hosted a "Bunco for Babies" night about a year and a half ago. Without going into too much detail about her personal life, I will just say that I sat and listened to this woman's story and was moved by her strength and willingness to make the world a better place. I couldn't help but support her!

When she e-mailed me thanking me for my support and complimented me on my images I couldn't help but throw out there "well...why don't you and your husband come and have a session? Celebrate YOU!". To my surprise she came back with an excited YES!

This sweet couple met me last week for what would be my final session in Augusta :( (until Oct when I hope you see some of you again)! I have to say that it was an absolutely WONDERFUL evening. Working with these two was simple...their love for life made my job easy!

The entire evening felt like I was hanging out with old friends. Well, old friends who would listen to me and do as I say ;)

S and P...it was TRULY a pleasure working with you. I not only enjoyed getting to know you but I thoroughly enjoyed proofing your pictures. Your smiles, your laughter, your sarcasm and your very apparent respect and love for each other is catching.

I wish you all the best in the future, wherever it may take you!

...three times, the last time...

As most of you know I am getting ready to move out to Portland, OR in a few weeks (two actually). 2700 miles away and I have SO much work to do! The move will be bitter sweet, I have been looking forward to getting back to the west coast since I arrived in the south but so bitter are the goodbyes that I know are coming. Both from amazing friends and loyal clients.

This is one such family that I will truly miss. This family has come to me three times to capture their sweet family. The first time I captured this family was when Miss K was just a few months old. The second time was right before the holidays and for this session K was over a year and Big Sister T is telling me about her "boyfriends"...yes, apparently more then one exists ;)

I want to thank you for entrusting me with your precious memories :) I hope you enjoy your not so little blog post! ( I have decided to do away with Sneak Peeks but instead will blog about the sessions I do from a more personal angle!)

Truly...it was a pleasure :)

...today is Mother's Day...

Today, Sunday May 9th, 2010 is Mother's Day. A day when mommies everywhere are sleeping in, opening cards, getting flowers and with a lot of luck a much needed massage :)

Today mothers everywhere are being celebrated. New mothers and Old mothers are all being thanked today for their willingness to dedicate their lives to help another grow...to become better.

Today I decided to post another "why I like this" photo (or rather a few) because to me it defines what motherhood is all about. Because my boys are still very young I only have that perspective...but I think all stages of motherhood can easy relate :)

I love this photo! I downloaded it off my memory card and instantly fell in love with it. The mother is pregnant and on the belly carrying her third little girl sits her second. For those that have never experienced pregnancy with a second child let me tell you that carrying a little one around on a baby belly is not the most comfortable thing in the world to do. But of course, we are mothers...and we do it (most of the time) without question! (Hence a day celebrating us). But, this is not what I love about this photo. What I love about this photo is that it portrays the sweetness that life can give us with our young children. Even those that are not mothers I am sure can relate. Holding a toddler, a little life with a little (or sometimes big) personality, can touch your heart. Their warm hands and ticklish toes...their gestures and their gaze. I could hold my babies like this for hours as I watch them watch the world unfold.

I love this photo because it reminds me of all that...and it reminds me that so quickly this tiny little person will change...will grow. From the time they grow in your belly to the time they are too old to be carried on your belly is a flash in time. The thought has me desperately clinging to these memories...and becoming a better mother because I want to live, as fully as I can, IN those memories. To catch every detail. (And...If you were smart you hired a fabulous photographer to capture sweet moments for you to treasure forever!) So when the memories no longer happen because your children are in a different phase of life, you have some photos that will allow your mind to day dream of the sweet moments that made up your younger motherhood.

This photo I love for many of the same reason's...but I like that you can see their interaction...mommy helping little one to understand the world, see it and love it.

This last photo really captured my heart. I opened it on my computer and I could feel the hands of my own little kids grabbing my arm to feel safe. Oh how I already miss them in my arms, watching the world from my hip. In these memories I was able to share everything with them. Watch what they watched...show them what I saw and watched their faces light up with amazement.

To all the mothers out there...or rather to all those women out there who nurture, help, sing to, comfort, carry and love little kids, I want to wish you a Happy Mother's Day :)

...just a big playdate...

This family was so fun for one big reason...this session was a big playdate! Complete with baseball, trikes, flower picking, giggling, hanging from trees...and most importantly M&Ms :)

I first met the G family last fall when their youngest son ran a 1/2 mile race I photographed. Can you believe it...this guy...ran 1/2 mile ;) (I think he may have been barely 4 at the time) Very cool!

He is the only runner I remember coming across the finish line...because he had the BIGGEST smile on his face. It was touching and made me smile...still does :)

The next time we met it was for a family session. They decided that their backyard would make the perfect setting and I would have to agree! The kids were comfortable with their familiar surroundings and more importantly these images now have a personal touch that in 20 years will touch your hearts.

I truly had a wonderful time getting to know these very sweet kids...who were waiting in the front yard to greet me when I pulled up!

I love this picture...it just really shows how fun and easy going they are!

...country goodness...

Well, I have to say after this day's exploration and session I am in love with the idea of living way out in the country. It is beautiful, quiet...and sweet. Everything about it screams heavenly photos and beautiful sunsets!

I know this story in my mind is quite different from the reality of living out in the country...but that is the beautiful thing about your imagination. It allows you to create the perfect place, picture or story, even if it is only perfect to you! All this said, I will be venturing out for other country session the minute a client expresses any interest!

With creative ideas in mind, our caravan set out to find the perfect "country" location! I was looking for a place that would allow my kids to run free while I wandered around capturing their true personalities! While driving through a tiny town, not too far from Augusta, we drove down what I can only assume was "main street". Suddenly out of this small little town pops a lush green, flower coated field. There was no doubt about it...we WERE stopping. ;)

We got all the kiddos out of the car (6 between the three of us photographers) and let them run free with the bees and wildflowers. We set up camp on the edge of the field and let the little ones explore to their hearts content!

After about an hour the energy started to fade with the sun! Which is a good thing...because now we could try to capture their darling little faces :)

Really...the day was just perfect! Absolutely PERFECT! To my two fellow photographers...Melissa and Marea...I had a WONDERFUL time....when are we going again?

...Spring Fever...

I love spring...I love finally getting a chance to go outside and feel the warm air on my skin. I love watching the leaves on the trees go from tiny green buds to bright green baby leaves. I love watching my boys run around in the front yard, driving their match box cars in the dirt and chasing each other with their toy lawn mowers.

I love that the world seems to come alive...not just the nature that lives in our yards and state parks...but people seem to come alive too. At least it seems true for me. When the weather turns beautiful enough to finally venture outside for the good part of the day I feel like the something in me that has been missing all winter has finally come back to take a deep breath of fresh air!

Did you know I am related to Mark Twain in some distant way? I should read more of him, he is after all a relative! I think I will actually...starting this spring :)

I always come across photos that I truly love....not because they are the greatest most popular photo...but because it touches my heart, grabbed my attention and made me stop a second to reflect on what it portrayed.

I have decided that I am going to post these pictures here and let you into my mind a little bit by trying to tell you why I love these photos so much. Adam Barker...and AMAZING photographer once posted "ask a photographer why they took the picture...you'll walk away with quality knowledge and better understanding of the photographer".

It has been my goal this year to ask WHY...not just pertaining to photographs...but to all things. Why is that? I want to have a better understanding...to know more about WHY the world exists around me. :)

On those notes, I want to start with a very dramatic B&W photo that I loved the minute I tripped the shutter...I KNEW it was perfect to me...

Why do I like this picture? I love it because while I was editing it the photo told me a million different stories.

It shows me a woman that is strong, confident and breathtaking. In her casual jeans and textured scarf I see a woman who takes her life and chooses to make it wonderful. Her eyes are closed as she silently organizes her thoughts under the glow of the setting sun. The light highlights all the places of interest in this photo...her hands, her face and even the highlights in her hair. I double take to look at this photo every time I see it.

On a second look I see a woman who knows what it is like to struggle with the dilemma's life gives us. Struggling to make the best of the lows and love like you're on a high. She has taken a minute, out underneath the wintry sky, to breathe in slowly, close her eyes to the hardships of the world and enjoy the warm light that touches her skin and bounces through her hair.

...second time is a charm...

This session was my second go around with Little Miss. B! The first time was a bit crazy...and seeing as mommy is a photographer as well she understood and we tried again :)

I am not a FIRM believer of due dates...but baby B came earlier then expected. With her head full of brown hair and her tiny little feet she was just as precious as could be the first time I had the pleasure of meeting her. Shortly after that she gave mommy and daddy a scare with some potential medical problems...and while I can not relate to the weight on a parents heart in their situation, I can sympathize to pain and heartbreak they must have felt.

I am so happy to report that Miss B is healthy as a butterfly and growing everyday!

Thank you so much for the chance to capture your family again, even though we are minus one sick big brother. I hope these images remind you of a time when love helped you triumph over all :)

This sweet little girl just amazed me. I thought I had pretty good babies when my boys were born but this little angel takes the cake for sure. She was 13 days when I met her...and when I arrived she had been fed and was sleeping quietly in her bassinet. I quickly set up fully expecting her to open her little eyes to the world and be wide awake for our entire session.

I couldn't be more wrong. She slept almost the entire session...it was a breeze. I was so happy with how these turned out!

Can you believe this beautiful flower quilt was hand stitched. I couldn't resist taking a few pictures. I can't remember who made this beautiful quilt, but if you happen to read this blog...Hats off to you, I was absolutely in LOVE with this quilt!

...The thing about babies...

When I was contacted by this new family to capture their month old newborn I was thrilled...this was my first session of Spring and I had been itching to take some beautiful pictures! Mama went back and fourth between capturing her cute baby J now or wait for a few months when he wasn't so fussy and on a more predictable schedule. When she asked me for my opinion on what she should do I told her...

With my oldest, who is now almost 4, I didn't hire a professional to come in and take pictures of him. Sure I had the snapshots I could take, even with my digital camera (I was just learning back then), but I didn't have any pictures artistically expressing life, love and motherhood. None of our family together experiencing this new life for the first time. I wanted nothing fancy, no magazine covers, no matching outfits on a perfect background just "us", being us, loving us...capturing a time in our lives that opens and closes just as quickly.

Mama, I am SO glad that you decided to go ahead and endure the fussy month old stage to capture your little J. Before you know it he will be crawling, talking, dressing himself, throwing food on the floor, requesting cartoons and asking you to give him some privacy! Most likely a day in random will come that you will come across the album of pictures from this session and when you open the cover you will be so incredibly grateful that you had the foresight to get yourself this gift!

In the First year of your child's life they grow and change so much! To anyone reading this I highly recommend that you give YOURSELF the gift of professional photos of your babies, You'll truly treasure them in about 5 years...and you'll be so happy you "splurged"!

NOW! Since I know that Grandma is visiting little J from England I am going to post LOTS of pictures so that she can see as many as possible before she leaves in a week!

Remember this beautiful mama?

Well, a few weeks after these were taken Little Miss B decided she was ready to come and get some pictures of her own! B was born 4 weeks early and apparently made quite an entrance into the world. She was wonderfully healthy and as tiny as can be. She has more hair then I have ever seen on a little one and her little fingers and toes were so soft to the touch. I love newborns, they really are "quite a nice way to start people" ;)

This is just Part 1 of her pictures, mama is a photographer too so we are going over again this week to play some more :) Stay tuned for more pictures!

...Today is Valentine's Day...

...that is right, the day when roses are cherished, chocolates eaten and everything becomes a wonderful shade of pink (or red).

I have never been a big fan of Valentine's Day, sure I am addicted to the candy hearts (yes I can and will eat a whole bag in one sitting) and yes I do love the beautiful flowers and giant balloons that hover over me at the grocery store...but I have really stopped putting much feeling into Valentine's day. To me...dare I say, it is a Hallmark Holiday.

I think this is because when I was a young girl back in 7th grade I secretly hoped that I would be delivered a rose from my secret admirer. I would watch as the Class president would come in with a bucket of newly blooming roses (all previously purchased by the "secret admirer" the week before) and a list of people who were to receive them. I tried to not look to hopeful as I watched him read and call out the names of those that would receive this mark of love. I would watch as the people (both girls and boys) who got them would glow with the knowledge that somewhere floating around the school was someone who "loved" them. It didn't happen for me in 7th grade, or 8th, in fact the one time it did happen I convinced my good friend to send me one and I to her. ...oh the things we do in High School.

Aside from the sick hope of getting a rose delivered to me in High School, what I remember most about Valentine's Day is the over-sized red and pink mug full of sweets and gifts with a card attached from my Dad. Every year that I can remember I would come down to breakfast and there my Valentine's day Gift would sit...waiting for me with open arms...I would not go gift-less today :) At the time of my love filled adolescence I didn't give the mug (although appreciated) much thought. It was the cheap roses and romantic stories that meant more to me.

However, when I became a parent the mug and everything it stood for took on a whole new meaning. It was about love...an endless love that someone (even though it was my dad) went out of his way to make me and my sister feel special. Even if I didn't know it at the time I carried that around with me throughout my rose-less High School days. Someone (even Dad) thought I, tall, lurpy, boyfriend-less self....was special!

Today, my boys woke up with small gifts and a giant frog balloon waiting for them on this special day of LOVE. Today, Valentine's Day has taken on something new for me. Not a celebration of romance or the hope of getting roses...today for me it means loving the life I am so lucky to have. Loving the boys that mean more to me then anything in the world. My only hope...that in 25 years they have the same realization I have had "that someone, even if it is Mom, thinks they are special...VERY SPECIAL!"

I hope today you spend a little time with those people in your life that are special to you! In the end I think it is less about this one single day and gifts that don't mean anything...and more about making the people who are special to you feel and know that they are loved beyond words.

...I got the chance to tag along. My wonderful friend Melissa was hired to capture Mrs. B and her precious baby bump. I was so glad that I could join them on their afternoon photo shoot! The skies were a little grey, and the temperature a little low, but we whether ed through it and captured some wonderful moments! It was wonderful getting to know you B and M! ...Small Buiness Support : Hannah's Handwork

As the New Year approached I was racking my brain for a "New Years Resolution". I know that New Year's resolutions are cliche and hardly anyone follows through with them but I like them. I like the idea of challenging yourself. I like the idea of picking yourself up and accomplishing something you have always wanted to. Taking your life in a direction it might not go otherwise!

This year I was trying to think outside of the box a little bit, I wanted to accomplish something that was different and was important to me. While I thought of many different ideas throughout the month of Decemeber I also began really analyzing my own Photography Business...more from a BUSINESS perspective and not so much photography. It finally dawned on me that the year 2010 was my year to support small businesses. I was actually trying to start a small business and I couldn't very well stand around and not support others who were doing the exact same thing I was. So it was decided (a few days after the 1st, but better late than never) that when I could I was going to support small and local businesses.

My first attempt at accomplishing my resolution was to get myself a "Handmade" address book from one of the thousands of Etsy sellers. After sending out our 2009 Christmas Cards, and getting them, I finally had everyone's address...but nowhere to put them all. The stack of card envelopes that had taken over my very tiny workspace wasn't going to cut it all year long. My first thought was to run to Barnes and Noble to get some (that might even be on sale). While I browsed through the address books I kept thinking "no...this is not me". It then dawned on me that this was the perfect opportunity to exercise my New Years Resolution. I searched for a few nights...trying not to look at the cost but the product and how much it fit me and my style. Something tells me this adventure of mine is going to help me understand myself a little better (but that is a post for another time).

I finally decided to purchase from Hannah Smith, owner and Craftsman of "Hannah's Handwork". She has some really neat books (journals, address books, small pocket books) as well as some vintage dresses and other cool things one might like to browse through. I purchased my address book, with MUCH confusion as it was my FIRST Etsy purchase and I was a little crossed with my e-mails and paypal account.

Hannah was incredibly nice and understanding as I struggled to figure out the whole "Etsy" process :)

As I was struggling to make my purchase from her I was also thinking about my blog. January is such a slow time for photographers (at least this photographer) and I was trying to come up with ideas for blog posts that would help my clients and other followers to stay more involved....and dare I say motivated! That is when I decided that I would blog my experiences here. Not only to help clients get to know me as their photographer, but also in hopes that some of you will find the desire to go out and support some of the small/local business owners you come across.

I hope that you'll come back as often as you can to see where I go next, and of course...to see pictures of the products I purchase ;)

To make my blog posts more interesting for you (because lets face it...I am not the most eloquent of writers) I have decided to do small interviews with the owners of these businesses. Helping me and everyone else get a little insight into what drives them to be so passionate about their products and why they took on the challenge of building a business around their passions.

So, without further ado...I introduce Hannah Smith, craftsman of my "oh so cute" address book ;)

Hannah How did you get started making your products?
I think I started making books when I was about 5 years old. I used to staple little pieces of paper together to make books for my dolls. For my 12th Birthday, my parents gave me bookbinding lessons. I've been making them ever since. I've been sewing as long as I can remember, though my beginning dresses had more pins then stitches holding them together, I think!

What Motivated you to start selling your products on Etsy?
I enjoyed the thought of being able to work from home, but I needed a way to market my products. First I tried selling on Ebay, but I wasn't very successful. Then a friend of mine (owner of victoriantimes.etsy.com) told me about Etsy, and suggested I try selling there instead.

What are your favorite things to make? Least Favorite?
My favorite things to make are the ones I've sold! But I'm really not sure what I enjoy making the most. It might be recovering an old book. I like to give "new life" as it were, to a well loved classic. My least favorite thing to do, is when I am asked to make a product out of materials that I think are ugly!

What is one of your business goals?
My goal for my store is to be able to sell as much as I make. If I put in a full time jobs' work, I'd like to get a full-time jobs' pay.

...expecting the unexpected...

I had the pleasure of hanging out with some really awesome local photographers last weekend for a maternity shoot!

Jessica is expecting baby B in just a few short weeks. How exciting...a little girl to brighten up life with pink bows and twirly tutus :)

We all met at a local "secret" spot and immediately starting capturing Jessica and her family. The rain was forecast to start around noon and we had so much we wanted to do before it got here.

Pregnancy is such a magic (or for some, not so magical time). The anticipation, the growth, the heart beats, the sonograms...(the leg cramps). Whether it is a beautiful time for you or not...you certainly can't deny that it is wonderful gift and opportunity to carry such a precious life!

Jessica, I had such a wonderful time capturing your little baby bump. I hope these pictures will help you treasure this time, because it will go by so quickly!

Well, the last family has been edited, the last shipment of Christmas Cards is on it's way and I am getting ready to kick back for the Holidays with my family. I Meet the B family on a beautiful day, one of the last left in our fall season. With two older girls (one of which LOVED the camera) and one spirited little princess...I knew this session would allow me to get some really sweet shots ;)

I was so excited to photograph this family! After getting to know Mama L briefly through e-mail she mentioned loving color and that her family would be dressed in a lot of texture and color. I couldn't be more thrilled at the idea, especially since color is captured so well in photographs that are shot on location!

The J family's love for one another was as obvious as the splashes of red that embellished their color wardrobe. It was a pleasure to capture so much spirit and love...

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!

I am so excited for you to see the images from this session I can hardly think of anything to write....maybe I'll spare you the grammatical errors and just get strait to the pictures?

I met the F family in Downtown Augsuta, it was so early in the morning that the fog still settled over the streets. Twenty minutes into the session the fog lifted to the sun to create the most beautiful light.

After some running, wrestling, falling and teasing this family was comfortable enough to let me capture their cute personalities. Every moment of this session was filled with love...as an outsider trying to capture the inside it was very easy to see the bonds that existed within this unit.

I am not kidding you, Mr. Z had THE most beautiful eyes I have ever seen...the color was amazing and I did NOTHING to them!

...almost an hour and a half without the paci, when she finally got it at the end of the session she finally showed me those oh so beautiful eyes!

I had a wonderful time capturing you all!

mmm...in my purse, no wait...on the Kitchen Counter...wait...its right next to me. I can never keep track of it.

always pulled back...I dream of letting it grow out and be beautiful...but I am too busy to do my hair.

words can not describe him...he is that feeling you get when you are overwhelmed by a touching moment.

I really like veggies!

Now it’s come time, for a new place to stay

...Surprise...

I just don't even know where to begin...how about from the beginning....

I set up my mini session times and dates, shortly there after I had Miss H. contact me about taking some pictures of her and her Boyfriend Mr. B. Absolutely...and we signed them up! Shortly after I received a new client e-mail..."I would like to surprise my girlfriend at the photoshoot on Nov. 8th...but I need to talk to you...can you call me?" Now you can imagine my excitement as I was hoping that it was going to be a proposal. Sure enough Mr. B wanted to surprise Miss. H and the most exciting part for me...he wanted my help in capturing the moment.

We decided that half way through the 30 minute session we would set up a picture that would allow Mr. B to be behind Miss H, he would be allowed to pull out the ring and get down on one knee without her knowing...then I would ask her to turn around...thus capturing her face the moment she saw him. Mr. B loved the idea...and upon enlisting my good friend Melissa for some critical help, the surprise was set into place.

A day or so before the session Mr. B contacted me and said "glitch...could we possibly bump up the session one day due to last minute changes in her work schedule". "Are you kidding me?" I said "For a surprise proposal...YOU BET!" Of course I had to contact Miss H. (If Mr. B. did it the secret might get out) and tell her that I was a flake and scheduled her session during something else...could she reschedule. Turns out Miss H. is incredibly nice and didn't have a problem rescheduling at all!

The session time came and my nerves were all over the place...I can only imagine how Mr. B. must have felt. I tried to remain calm and keep in mind that this guy is about to propose to his sweet, beautiful girlfriend...lets not make him wait too long.

I thought to myself how wonderful to capture some wonderfully flirty photos right before he asks her to spend the rest of her life with him!

..o.k Rachael...don't make this guy wait any longer...

We headed over to a spot that would allow for out little setup...while I have several photos of Mr. B asking Miss H to marry him I condensed them down for space sake. When Miss H turned around she wasn't totally sure what was going on, she took a few steps closer to him and instantly she knew... she walks over to him...jumps up and down...and with so much love and enthusiasm jumps into the arms of her fiance! "Is That a YES?" Says Mr. B

...this one being my favorite...and just too cute not to show in a larger photo...

I know your smiling right now...aren't you?

I was just so moved...I had tears in my eyes as I watch the love that these two people exchanged. I was so honored to be there...let alone to take pictures of their most wonderfully spontaneous moment.

After I gave them some private time to whisper "I love you" we carried out the rest of the session...only now...these were engagement photos :) How sweet, look through them...happiness is seeping out of every corner of the photo and you can't help but smile and remember when you got engaged (or dream about the day that it will be you).

I absolutely LOVE this next shot...between her admiring her beautiful ring, Mr. B loving that this beautiful girl is hanging onto his arm or the yummy sunflare that warms the shot...really, how could you not love it?

As the session came to an end...the surprises kept coming...the family showed up, champagne in hand and smiles so big. I am sorry to say that I didn't get to meet everyone...so I am not sure who is who...but how wonderful to have so much love and support surround you on one of greatest days of your life...of course "THE" greatest day is in the not too distant future for this sweet couple!

Thank you a THOUSAND times for sharing this wonderful day with me! I have picked just a few photos that represent the day...I only wish I had more time with the two of you :) So many congratulations to you both!

Somewhere Downtown...

This was my second time capturing the P family. The first time was in the middle of the summer and the temperature during our session was over 100 degrees. By the end we were all sweating and ready for a tall drink of water. However, weathering through the heat paid off as I got some wonderfully beautiful pictures of the sweet new sisters. You can see them here...its amazing how much kids grow in just four months.

Well, for this session the temperatures were MUCH more pleasant...and we headed downtown for a little something new. It was a quick hour and a half as the sun quickly set behind the old Augusta buildings...but as you can see...we used every minutes wisely!!!!

of course, no downtown shoot would be complete without a beautifully textured and brightly colored door :) Special thanks to my good friend Melissa for grabbing these beautiful red flowers last minute. The flowers totally pulled these shots together!

...and a shot sure to be treasured. I opened this up on my monitor and my heart just sang :)

I had a wonderful time...and more importantly got some beautiful pictures :) It was so good to spend another evening capturing the girls and their wild, funny, silly, sweet, smiley and friendly personalities!

FRG families...

First of all...I know I said that I was going to be posting the families from my FRG fundraising sessions over the course of last week...but last week was very busy for me as I was preparing to run in Augusta's Half Marathon! Yes, I have posted this everywhere else for people to see...so why not here? I finished the half marathon, 13.1 miles...and I am so proud that I did so ;) For me running is not easy, I have never considered myself a runner and when I decided to take on this challenge the most mileage I had ever ran was 4.5 miles (a far cry from 13.1). But every week I kept at it, every weekend I tackled the long run that was on my training calendar...and last week as I cross the finish line with my 3 year old yelling at me "Go mommy, your racing to the finish, good job mommy" I felt such a great since of accomplishment. For me this was huge...

I would encourage all of you to tackle something that is really big, be it in exercising, reading, writing or photography. The sense of accomplishment you will have will carry you to your next big goal. Living your dreams...accomplish the goals that will make you happy!

So...here I am...waving to my sweet boy who not only gave me the last burst of energy I needed to get across the finish line but who lights up my life in ways I could have never thought possible.

and now that my little personal blurp is over...here is a a very small sneak for families 2 and 3. The B family I am getting to know better and better as she is a friend of mine. Her sweet girls are just so stinkin' cute...and I could capture them every weekend. G and her family of four legged furry friends I have known for a long time, since I first moved to Augusta 3 years ago...we have lost touch over the last year or so...but it was so good to capture her and her furry friends.

Family Readiness.....

Last spring I had the opportunity to shoot several families for a fundraiser...it was huge for me because shooting for three days (three very long, wonderful days) taught me a lot about taking pictures of families. After this experience I really began to grow as a photographer both in technical skill and confidence.

A couple of weeks ago I was asked to photograph them again...and once again I am so grateful for the experience I gain and I am so in awe of the beautiful photos I got ;)

I will blog over the next few days two families at a time. These two were my first families...B family I have captured before, and several of their pictures can be seen on my website. P family was new for me...but OH how I loved their wonderfully blue eyes...and this little girl...has convinced me that I want another...just to try for a girl ;)

I am coming up on my 2 month anniversary of "officially" being in business...I don't count my portfolio stages because...well...you should see some of my older work ;) In the last year and a half I have come to live and breath photography...I read about it, I do it, I talk about and even all of my friends are into it! Really I wouldn't have it any other way...

Now through this year I have also done a lot of online research and I have found different blogs that have helped me with understanding the technical side of photography, especially techniques that are popular in today's photo-journalistic world! Now one of these blogs in particular has become a favorite because the author is a mom (just like me) and a photographer (just like me). She is easy to relate to and incredibly helpful, she answers the questions of her readers when so many other photographers won't give you the time of day. I recommend anyone interested in photography to scroll through her blog...not only will she give you a jump start to any research you need to do, but she will also answer reader's questions on topics like: focus, camera bodies, how to pose and dress your clients, locations that may work and her most recent post "The best age for photographing babies".

She has helped me gain a better understanding of exposure settings and design. My work, since following her blog, as gone from this

Living History

Yesterday afternoon I met with the M family for a session that has been a long time coming! I booked this session months ago, and have been looking forward to it ever since. I met the M's through a local Moms Club, but never knew them personally. I did, however, know that they were beautiful on the inside and out and that their session would reflect that.

They chose a historical park as their location, and while it was not what I was expecting, it proved to be a very unique and perfect place. With bridges, waterfalls, historical wooden and brick houses and an open lawn as my backdrop I was able to capture the M family while they enjoyed each other .

...and since I know y'all didn't come here to read my post I'll get to posting some pictures...

...now, here is where I introduce the balloons. You will notice that the purple balloon will make an appearance through out the rest of the photographs. I hope that you cherish this as I think it added so much personality. When you look back at this when L is 15 you can tell her that she loved that balloon...and would NOT let it go ;) The memory will be sweet...and well worth it!

I wanted to share with you that I have decided to limit the number of clients I am taking on in any given month! While I LOVE capturing as many families as possible I am finding I can't maintain the high volume and Customer service while also being a mommy to my two cute boys! I will limit my sessions to four a month starting in January! So if your interested in a session next year keep in mind that I have limited openings and I tend to be booked two months in advance!

Silly fun

This session was all about the silly fun. Jumping, sword fighting, throwing flowers, falling in ponds, being chased by bees, running, riding the waves....really the list could go on.

The two N sisters were quite a delight...The oldest, S, has a dramatic flare that can easily be seen through each of her photos. Throughout the session you would catch her reciting dramatic lines from Shakespeare and then throwing herself on the ground in dramatic relief...

The younger sister G, however, is much more reserved and it was a rare occasion when I could get her to talk to me...much less look at me and my giant camera! However I did lure her into a short pose here and there by letting her take and see the pictures on my LCD screen. Her big brown eyes will absolutely take your heart!

This family is very memorable for me, little over a year ago they took a chance and hired me for my VERY FIRST EVER family session. While I know I had a lot to learn I thank them from the bottom of my heart for taking that chance. Because of that session my business and photographic skill began to grow and here I am today...loving every minute of my job.

J, your girls are beautiful and I can only imagine how much fun you have watching them grow day in and day out! Thank you so much for allowing me to capture these sweet girls for a second time! I truly had a wonderful time!

I was able to borrow a wide angle lens from a Friend of mine. I love the look and think I might just have to buy one!

She really is quite silly. As you can see...however what you don't see is her with a circle of flowers around her. She requested that we do so, and for just 30 seconds she laid there with her eyes closed and a flower in her hand...

Here is is...the first time she let me take a few. So sweet ;)

Orange, Brown and Fall Flowers!

Well, its October and while most of the country is experiencing fall we, here in the south, are finally getting the chance (after a VERY HOT summer) to get out doors and enjoy. The leaves have just started to change color here...and what better way to dive into fall then to have a "fall" session with one very cute and very sweet 4 month old!

This session was set up quickly, and it just seemed like fate that it should happen at the right time and the right place. It was also fun because baby C has the same name as my baby C ;) Good choice.

C's Grandma and Grandpa also joined us and I have to say such big THANK YOU'S to you both. Without your help and total willingness I would not have gotten the shots I did! I really, really appreciate it.

Anyway...I'll post what you've all come to see. Some "Oh, so Cute" pictures of this little guy in his "fall photo shoot" :)

Why take family photos every year....

I had the pleasure of photographing one of my dearest friends and her family. Her son and my oldest son are "buddies" so I had an edge on this session as I was very familiar with mommy and Mr. J.

Mom had mentioned, and I know she was only joking, that she knew taking pictures was a bad idea. Well M, I am posting a more serious post to make my case against you (I can do that your my friend) and to make the case for anyone that reads this that photographing your life is not only wonderful ...but essential!

Hiring a lifestyle photographer doesn't mean you JUST get your picture taken.... a lifestyle photographer will capture you and your family by freezing precious moments for you to treasure forever. If you have kids, you know how quickly life changes and often times we are left with shadows of what out kids were like, even just a few years ago. M....I promise that you'll pull out these pictures 5 or 10 years from now and your heart will sing with the memories of Mr. J.

Here is why you (as in everyone who reads this) should go hire a lifestyle photographer to capture your family.

...because you'll remember a time when he didn't want you to put him down, a time when he was comforted by your presence...

...because there was a time when his heart was full of curiosity for the world around him...

...because there was a time when it was just the three of you, sharing all the love of a family....

...because there was a time when he wanted you there, he wanted you to see everything that was wonderfully new to him....

....because you will remember a time when he skinned his knees and you single-handedly could take his pain away...

...you'll remember a time (like this session for instance) when he couldn't jump in enough puddles...

...you'll remember a time when their was ONE person who felt exactly the same way you did about this little boy. The person that helped you through the tough times with laughter and patience. Who held your hand when you needed it, and shared the burden when you needed it....

...because Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away....

My session with the P family was absolutely PERFECT.

I was so honored to have the chance to capture this sweet family, I knew when Mom asked me to take some pictures for them that they would turn out just amazing. The love that they share as a family is infectious and every single picture just makes my heart smile!

Your Last Year....Of School!

I had the honor of shooting N's senior photos for his last year of "required" school :) He was actually the first senior shoot of my career and like every other new experience I have had in photography I LOVED it!

Seniors bring something to the table that no other age group has....the spring of youth, full of energy and possibility. But they also have the ability to stand still allowing you to capture their serious side!

With this Senior I had the pleasure of having both his brother and sister along to help pull out his smiles and create ideas! And I couldn't say enough about how wonderfully silly and fun this family is. I enjoyed spending the evening with you, especially the Graduate!

Maternity "Urban" Style!

Well...I did it! My first ever Maternity Shoot--Urban Style!

This mama suggested that we head to Library Square in Salt Lake City, Utah! When she told me where she wanted to meet for our session I jumped with joy...I had been wanting to do an Urban shoot (of any kinda really) for a long time ;)

Seeing as this was my first "urban" session (I will stop with the parenthesizes now) I arrived at Library Square a bit overwhelmed and stumped for ideas. We immediately decided to try the roof of this Library (it had a garden...I needed to ease into this Urban stuff). Here is what we were so lucky to get as the sun quickly set behind us ;)

Our next Urban adventure would be a pond snuggled up to the Library building. Maybe its just me but I LOVED the warm reflection of the building in the glass behind them.

This one being the favorite from my session..

Of course we couldn't be 15 feet from the Library Square Trax Station and not snap a few there as well ;)

...and then of course there was the the GIANT BLUE wall 15 feet from the Trax Station...

...and then there was the....

You know what, I could do this forever and show you every picture from your session! But I want to save a few surprises so I am going to stop with this last one!

Snowbird Session...

I was so excited for this session for two reasons. First I was getting the chance to see some old friends whom I hadn't seen in several years. I think the last time I really had a chance to hang out with them was nearly 4 years ago when life was very different for all of us ;)

Secondly they had agreed to have their session up at one of Utah's famous Ski resorts "Snowbird". I have hiked here many times and the thought of having a family session in the beautiful Rocky Mountains had me very thrilled! Of course to top it all off I woke up to crisp mountain air and cloudy skies (very optimal for taking pictures).

I met up with them at the base of the Ski Resort and we decided to go on a little hike up a paved path. Now, for the most part I can really get along with kids and help them open up for photos...but when this families oldest got out of the Stroller she was off and running...wanting nothing to do with me or my giant camera.

Once she was a little more convinced of my presence we started to capture this cute family in action.

uh...oh...here she is again, telling me to "stop taking pictures"

And because Daddy wanted to be in "as few pictures as possible" we spent a little time with just the girls! Truly, while take these pictures my heart just raced with excitement for you to see them. The bond between a mother and her girls is amazing.

Of course Daddy's have their very special place too! (Even if they don't want to be in the picture)!

It was great to see the both of you, and I just have to compliment you both...your awesome parents your girls are very lucky to have you!

Introducing Baby C

Oh there is nothing sweeter then a newborn shoot.

I was honored to capture Baby C on her fourth day of life and I could not ask for a better subject ;) I arrived at her house and she was feed, sleepy and ready for some pictures. Lucky for me she stayed that way the whole session (with only one food break). She let me touch her with my cold fingers, she let me pose her almost in any way..and she even allowed her big sister to poke at her a few times ;)

During our session with new baby C, daddy and grandma took big sister to the pool! Daddy is in the military and we got this as a "surprise for him".

We got some more with your ACUs jacket daddy but you'll have to wait for the CD to see those!

finally...my favorite thing about newborns? All there cute, tiny little limbs, bellies, fingers and feet!

Rain, Camp, Hike...

Well, a few months ago I got this crazy idea that it would be fun to go camping this summer up in the Smokey Mountains. I managed to talk two of my closest girlfriends into taking their families and coming along. In short...we had quite an adventure!

It all started with the 4 and 1/2 hour drive up to our camp site. As soon as we hit North Carolina the mountains were surrounding us and I had to really focus on keeping my eyes on the road and NOT on the green that towered over me. Once we pulled into our camp site I had a heck of a time trying to unload my car as my youngest (11 months) was not so crazy about the idea of me setting up the pack n' play and leaving him in it. Eventually I was able to get our gear out of the car and our tent laid out (I can thank my good friend Melissa for this). Of course it was only moments after EVERYTHING was out of the car that it started to rain. At first I thought that I could quickly put up the tent before it got ugly but mother nature had different plans. Without going into too much detail just picture me soaking wet, my tent underwater, my sleeping bags wet and the pack n' play (which I had originally planned on using in the tent) FULL of water. We were off to a great start!

The rest of the evening was spent trying to dry out my tent and take care of my wet and hungry kiddos. Once night came the rain let up and we were able to dry out by the fire.

The next morning we set out to hike the tallest peak East of the Mississippi. I vastly miscalculated the distance from our campsite to the peaks trailhead and what was supposed to be a two hour trip turned into an all day event. Needless to say the hike was really fun and my 3 year old proved to be quite the hiker!

Here is what we were able to see at the top!

Now this picture holds a little more value for me then it might to you. I wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail while we were up here but the craziness and quickness of the trip just didn't allow it. I would love to someday backpack a few sections of this trail, but for this trip I had to settle for a a few steps and a picture of the sign.

Once we got back to base camp us mommies needed some photo time sans Kiddos. We drove a mile or so out of our camp site and found a beautiful river. I found this time to be therapeutic...there is nothing like being surrounded my nature. The sounds are peaceful, the scenery relaxing and the air refreshing.

As night began to settle we gathered around the fire and let the darkness settle in around us. Now this picture is not exactly the above painted seen...but rather the following morning. I didn't get a chance to grab my camera so this will have to do:)

The next morning, before we began packing up the camp, the boys and I went for a hike.

My youngest, as you can see, is COMPLETELY tuckered out and didn't get to see much of the hike :( But at this point I will take sleep in any form!

btw, for all you active mommies and daddies out there I HIGHLY recommend the backpack. It is perfect for hiking, amusement parks, airports, farmers markets, nightly walks, and any event that requires you to stand rather then sit (as strollers are such a pain).

Well, after the hike we packed up our dried gear and headed for home. Driving back I was a little sad to leave the Smokey Mountains in my rear view mirror...

Raining Personality

From the moment I first talked to M, via e-mail, I knew that she was a very sweet and fun person. I then had the pleasure of getting to know her and her family and with each story they told I was just in awe of the strength that existed within each of them.

This session was booked MONTHS in advance and we had a hard time narrowing down a date that would work for everyone. So once the day came it only figures that it would rain all day. More ironic is the fact that I can't remember the last time it rained ALL day in Augusta!

Mommy M and I debated back and fourth all day on whether we should try to beat the rain and I have to say that I am SO GLAD WE DID!

We pulled up to our location and ran for cover because the rain just started to pour. Luckily we had chosen a location with some shelter! Here is what we got while we waited for the rain to die down....

After awhile we decided that the rain was not likely to give up in the next hour so we had better brave it despite how wet we (or my camera) was going to get! Boy, I am SO glad we did...

Even in the end, after being rained on for nearly two hours this family was FULL of smiles and silly fun! Not to mention every one of these kids was MORE then willing to walk around in the grasshopper infested field.

...at last it was time to say goodbye and I can honestly say that I was a little sad and knew I was going to miss y'all. I wanted to say "keep me posted on K's cross country" or "I will see y'all soon", but that is why we take pictures...to freeze a moment of time and remember it forever!

Thank you so much for allowing me to be silly, laugh, dance in the rain, run from flying mud and mostly for the chance to get to know you. Good Luck kids on your up coming school year!

Southern Fields--Photography, Augusta, GA

I am still quite a novice at maternity sessions, so tonight was big for me because I got some AMAZING shots of mommy D! I pictured tall grass, a setting sun and a beautiful belly, and that is exactly what I got!

I have to tell you this mama is SO much braver then I am. We started walking through the field to find the best spot and I couldn't help but cringe at the jumping grasshoppers...however, this mama strolled right on through without batting an eye! I was very impressed (and grateful), here is why :

But it doesn't stop there! After we had our fill of the tall, golden grass (really it was the grasshoppers for me) I spotted a wooden fence that I just couldn't leave out. again...here is why:

and because daddy couldn't join us (he was watching big sister who was not feeling so well) this is for you :)

Just the Girls!!!!

Today I enjoyed a beautiful session with the S girls. When they pulled into the parking lot and jumped out of the car with their cute pink dresses on, I couldn't help but smile! (I have two boys you see and cute pink cloths are NOT part of our wardrobe). We started out the session with a little running around. Mom had brought a boom box to induce some dancing and girly twirls…but apparently when there is an electrical socket it doesn't mean that electricity is running to it. Either way we found a way to grab a few great shots!

We then went for a little walk to the "waterfalls", mommy had to run back and get some things so we tried a little surprise photo, hug style….. and I promise, Mom, they were MORE then willing to take a picture for mommy!

An Invitation to Jenn and Mitch

Last Saturday I shot Jenn and Mitch's wedding at The Pavilion at Hammond's Ferry here in Augusta. It was a beautiful day, despite being amongst an already very HOT summer. I spent the entire day with this couple...from the hair styles, to the buttons, to the make-up and boat ride, to the vows and finally the party! I had such a wonderful day with you and your dear friends that when I left at the end of the night I felt a little sad that I wouldn't be a part of the "group" anymore :(.

I want to thank you for such a beautiful glimpse into what is to be your wonderful life! I was truly touched to tears on several occasions as I peered at your love, honesty and beauty from behind my camera! Jenn and Mitch you are amazing people, your kindness is catching and your humor full of life, and your friends are no different.

I also want to share with everyone who has taken to reading this blog a poem that has truly touched me and how I view myself. I am sure many of you have heard this but this was a first for me and as I stood in the back of the pavilion listening to this poems sweet words I got chills that were unforgettable.

This night was nothing but fun! From the moment I arrived at the church I knew that the people I was going to spend the next 6 hours with were going to make my job incredibly easy! The families were touching, personable and strong...

Just a shot story that I have to share. When I started to catch a few detail shots I came across the brides bouquet...and tied to the stems was a "Baby Bible". I asked what this was and Jennifer told me that her mother had received this precious white bible, with embroidered roses on the front, as a gift at her baby shower 25 years ago (before she even knew she was having a little girl). Today, this beautiful bride will walk down the isle to meet the man of her dreams, and in her hands she will carry an old gift that promises a future.

I want to Thank you Jennifer and Oliver for giving me the chance to spend this wonderful day with you!

Day 3--Photo-a-thon! Augusta, GA Photographer

WOW..20G's later and I am on Day 3 of my Photo-a-thon! For those of you who are just tuning into this blog I had the chance to work with some of our local military members during a fundraiser. I shot 15 families in 3 days and loved every minute of it! Even though it was in the low 90's this weekend the families (and the kids) were good sports and so fun to be around! Thank you all so much for the chance of working with you :)

For the last shot of the day I told the kids they could have a silly shot and do whatever they wanted! She was finally getting her joker brother back with bunny ears...and he was giving me the "ol' See ya later"!!!

Day one Of three--//Augusta, GA Photographer

This past weekend I got the chance to shoot several families as part of the Family Readiness Group Fundraiser up at Fort Gordon. At first I was nervous about the volume of families I would be photographing, but at the start of this first day my fears were quickly laid to rest.

Of course I had only 30 minutes with each family, which was not enough...I could have spent hours with each one. However, I was able to capture some beautiful images of the love that binds these military families together.

A Trip to Hilton Head Island--//Augusta, GA Photographer

Here they are, here they are! I love these pictures. These two people are two of the sweetest and lively people I have ever photographed. We spent three hours on the beach and I could have stayed all night (but didn't have my flash). We explored the Dunes, a sail boat, a jelly fish, the waves, a wonderful beachy fence and a cabana...I will post more pictures in a couple of days!

It is so easy to tell from spending an evening with the two of you that your going to have a wonderful life together! Thank you so much for the honor of letting me be apart of it!

This was my first Bridal Session and all I have to say is "I am Hooked"!

The location for this session, The Willcox Inn, is also the venue for the reception. The Willcox Inn is said to have hosted house hold names like Harold Vanderbilt, the Duke and Duchess of Winsor and Elizabeth Arden to name a few. Legend also has it that Franklin D. Roosevelt had his personal train pull up to the back of this Hotel where he would spend time with his "special friend"!

No matter what the Legends are The Willcox Inn is such a perfect setting for a Southern Wedding full of souther charm and hospitality!

From the moment I left my house this shoot was PERFECT! As I reached our location at 4:30pm the clouds began to roll out over head. The Photo Gods were on my side and had blessed me with the perfect lighting!

Then this family showed up, from the moment they stepped out of the car it was just fun and very easy. They played, the smiled, they hugged, they kissed and they Loved! What more could you ask for???

Maybe some mosquito repellent, am I right guys?

So this shoot I had a few weeks ago but thought I would share anyway...

This family has two small boys, almost the exact same age as my boys. In fact their youngest is only 24 hours younger then mine!

Of course you know that shooting a 2 year old can give you great pictures that you don't expect to get and this session was no different. Some of my favorite moments are when Mom and Dad are naturally interacting with their kids.

On this day the very last shot I got was of the family laying on the grass snuggling just like they do when they sleep! It was so natural and such a great memory to keep forever.

A Evening Walk--Augusta, GA Photographer

Well, after being rained out for two days we finally got to schedule our session.

There is nothing quite like a walk in the evening with a wonderful family and your D300 camera! This family was really fun to work with, mom and dad were up for just about anything (and they didn't give me too many crazy looks while I instructed them to walk here...or lay there). Their son? He was so stinkin' cute. The little guy just learned how to walk and was very excited to do so (as long as mommy was on one side and daddy on the other).

Grandma (on mommy's side) was also able to join us, and even though she was a little camera shy I got such a precious moment of her helping her grandson. Gotta love Grandmas :)

I got some wonderful pictures and can't wait to hear the responses from them! I hope you all enjoy and thank you so much for the opportunity to share this Evening Walk with your family!!!!

This little guy was just too much fun...and he totally gave me a work out. At 18 months he wanted NOTHING to do with the camera, so it was my job to work around him!

My favorite thing, any time he did look at the camera he had a BIG, CHEEZY Grin...the kind you can't pose.

Of course, three quarters of the way through our shoot Mr. J tripped and fell...bonking his cute little forehead. After some loves from mom and dad he was on the move again...with one round, purple goose egg!

Its true, I am living proof that Dreams do come true ;) I have been in love with photography from the time I took my first class in high school. I enjoy the process of learning about a photography, what it does to the viewer and the memory it can preserve forever.

I was once asked "If money was no option what would you do with your life?" and my answer was "I would travel the world and take pictures!". Today this is slowly becoming a reality for me as I give myself the title "PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER". I hope that you will enjoy the photos I am capturing through my sessions!
